    Description

This is a nice fully lined tunic constructed from a heavy, mustard colored wool. It features four exterior pockets, a five button, single-breasted front closure, and a lay-down collar with a hook and eye closure at the neck. The lapel has a beautiful set of early war Sergeant collar tabs. The horizontal slash breast pockets have scalloped, button-down flaps, with buttons, and the unbuttoned, angled slash hip pockets have straight-edged flaps. The bayonet support strap is to the left hip. The five large buttons to the front closure, and the smaller ones to the pockets and the bayonet support strap, are all of copper-colored metal, and all appear to have their original stitching. The interior of the tunic is lined in white cotton, with a white cotton vertical slash pocket to the interior left breast, and a white cotton horizontal slash wound dressing pocket beneath that. Nice manufacturer markings. We believe this one is dated 1941 or 1943.
What is especially nice about this tunic is that the field where the soldier's name would have gone (the left box) is actually filled out. There is always potential that with some research, we could find out what happened to our Heitai sergeant. Since this uniform is likely a bring-back from the Pacific Theater, one could only assume. We can also see sweat stains in the lining, giving good indication that this was actually worn and took part in the history that we so love.
Condition: The uniform remains in good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. There is some scattered moth damage on the body of the uniform, particularly in the lower back and sleeve. Nothing terribly detractive - just typical of an honest uniform that has spent 80+ years in storage. Please see the pictures for more detail.
